We create voice models of words
This exercise can be used with children who can already read simple words. Thanks to this game, we can explain to children the concept of sounds (what we hear), vowels and consonants. We assign the color red to the vowels and blue to the consonants (such exercises are included in early school education textbooks). We show the children a picture and they name what they see and list all the sounds in a word, e.g. COW: C-O-W.
Additionally, we can ask the children to:
a) indicate which sounds in this word are vowels? (O, A) and which consonants? (K, R, W)
b) they placed red gears on the platform where the vowels and blue gears where the consonants were placed.
c) placed underneath as many yellow gears as there are syllables of the word
The picture relates to Polish translation of a word “cow” – krowa (k-r-o-w-a / syllables: kro-wa)
